The best of Tasmania is a bit dark

The best of Tasmania is a bit dark

The best of Tasmania  is a bit dark, and we are talking about Arts. Have you heared about dark Mofo. “The Best Dark Playground ever. The food is amazing. The selection of artists (local and international) are always superb. I call it my adult play ground. One day I’ll do the naked swim. I can not recommend this festival enough to friends, family and people I meet. GO!” I was feeling like going to a party in a cementery with hundreads of candels in dark park  or like halloween event in Jun, so maybe you can understand better, however is not like halloween, i know hard to understand.

From performance, to food, Hobart shows the best in winter in Australia with this amazing festival that called lovers and haters and make everyone talk about it and the big symbol this year is the inverted Christian icon, so is obvious that people reac to that “The dark mofo winter fest has been badged as a cultural event but why the upside crosses and hiring of satanic priests to facilitate some of the entertainment? All fun and games or is Mofo messed up and has Tas become twisted ?”

On the other hand the lovers are making this city a great turistic place for winter in Australia. “Absolutely amazing- I had high expectations that were blown away…spent 3 days and still only saw about 1/2 of what was on offer…will be back next year for sure (& for longer)!”

The best of Tasmania , “it’s all about the food first visit to winter feast was surprised with the pricing structure of food and drinks in most cases expensive for what was on offer. We consumed some Ethiopian food and as it turns out probably one of the cheapest options available. Have a season ticket will probably go this weekend not locals for atmosphere alone and dark park.”

Three years ago it was truly a pagan inspired dark festival of midwinter. Woodsmoke and wierdness abounded at the Feast. Dark Park and the orbiting exhibits sunk you into other worlds and threw long shadows into the corners of possibility.

This year, it’s great. I love it. But it feels safe. Clean. Like someone’s got busy with health and safety and wagged a finger at all the wood burning. No more drag queens and dark souls at the feast. It feels like the Taste painted red.Its amazing that is possible to say, The best of Tasmania is a bit dark

A bit of change is screaming aroud

As for Dark Park? Spectacular in the individual works, but the range seems reduced. The exhibit numbers lower. It’s still reason enough though. Thoughtful, stunning, provocative and a stack of other words around emotive things.

Just wish the Feast could be re paganised. Dragged back to the dark ages that it attempts to hark back to. An edge more edgy please.

We are so lucky to have dark mofo, and in Hobart of all places. I remember talking to a women who worked at the Uffizi gallery in Florence, saying how lucky she was to have the gallery. She asked me where I came from and without skipping a beat looked in awe that I have mona. I love that one person can throw out the conventions of how to consume art. And I love that it’s all just down the road.

Oh @monamuseum you look Spectra-cular for @dark_mofo this year! After spending the past few weeks up in Sydney for Vivid I have been super keen to get out and shoot around Hobart and see what I could capture. And I have been especially keen to shoot the Spectra display which started tonight. Now I have my one shot that I am happy with for this year’s festival, I can concentrate on the food and entertainment for the rest of the weekend! This year, I miss having a few meaty exhibitions to visit in the day. The contemporary gallery was open, but the performance happened in the evening. Dark park doesn’t have as many pieces this year which is a little disappointing. The main exhibits could be interpreted as providing lights for the masses, but I enjoyed thinking about the potential symbology of them. I am so glad mike parr joined the line up again. Winter feast is amazing, with great diversity in music performances and culinary treats. The stand out of the entire festival is siren song. What a flash of true creativity that is. The ethereal performance of a building and a helicopter, it keeps luring me to the docks. Hats off and thank you thank you.

What do you think about Dark MoFo. Its finish, but next year are coming more things. From my point of view, The best of Tasmania is a bit dark

If you are an artist from Australia, let us know about you, have you read about this, may can help you.
